CMV Blood Test
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) refers to an infection that typically has minimal or no effect on a healthy person. However, if a pregnant woman contracts CMV for the very first time, it may pose risks to the baby.
For those undergoing fertility treatment and considering donor eggs or sperm, we can recommend a CMV test to check for past or present infection. We will then use the results to guide you in selecting the most suitable donor to minimise the risk of virus transmission.
How to Prepare For the CMV Blood Test
With your consent, our phlebotomy experts will take the blood sample. This is what you should do prior to your appointment:
- 24 hours before the test, ensure that you drink a lot of water to make blood withdrawal easy.
- On the day of the appointment, wear loose-fitting clothes to make it easier to access hands and arms.
- Take your anticoagulant drug after the appointment if you are taking it. However, if this is impossible, you can take it before your blood test.
- Inform your provider about your fears of needles so that they can do their best to make you feel comfortable.
