Pelvic Fertility – Endometrial Thickness

Pelvic Fertility - Endometrial Thickness

At Sonoclinic, we conduct pelvic fertility endometrial thickness scans as part of your fertility evaluation or treatment process. It is primarily designed for individuals preparing for or currently undergoing fertility treatment.

What Does Endometrial Thickness Assessment Involve?

This procedure uses a transvaginal ultrasound to examine the womb’s lining (endometrium) and includes a basic review of the ovaries. The scan measures the thickness and appearance of the endometrial lining while ensuring that the ovaries remain ‘quiet’ (without dominant follicles).

What to Expect During the Scan

A qualified sonographer with diagnostic expertise will perform this scan to support your fertility treatment by:

  • Measuring the endometrial lining’s thickness before embryo implantation.
  • Confirming that the ovaries are ‘quiet’ and free of dominant follicles.

If you have an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD), endometrial thickness cannot be accurately measured. Our healthcare provider will give you more guidance on such matters.

A pelvic fertility endometrial thickness scan is best performed transvaginally for optimal clarity. With your consent, the sonographer will insert a small ultrasound probe into the vagina.

If you prefer not to undergo a transvaginal scan, we may perform a transabdominal alternative (using an external ultrasound probe on the pelvic skin) instead. However, the results may be less precise.

Preparing for Your Scan

Before the appointment, your sonographer will ask you to:

  • Empty your bladder before your scan.
  • Wear a two-piece outfit (like a top and trousers or a skirt) to allow easy access to your abdomen.

What Happens After the Scan?

After the procedure, you will receive a detailed written report, including recommendations for your next steps. We can send your report directly to your healthcare provider if medical follow-up is needed.
