Pelvic Fertility - Monitoring Scan
The pelvic fertility-monitoring scan is a specialised gynaecological ultrasound designed for individuals receiving fertility treatment. It provides important insights into the uterus, endometrial lining, and ovaries; while helping assess follicle growth, size, and reaction to medication. This scan is suitable for both natural and medicated (stimulated) cycles. It is also available for individuals aged 16 and over.
What to Expect
An experienced sonographer with diagnostic expertise performs this transvaginal (internal) scan. The procedure involves measuring all ovarian follicles to track their development. After your scan, you will receive a comprehensive written report detailing follicle measurements and other relevant findings that your fertility provider can use.
What’s Included?
- 30-minute diagnostic appointment
- Internal (transvaginal) scan
- Same-day results
- Comprehensive written report
- Printed images for your records
For optimal clarity, this scan is conducted transvaginally. Your sonographer will request your consent before inserting an ultrasound probe into your vagina.
How to Prepare for Your Scan
To ensure the best possible ultrasound images, follow these guidelines:
- Take 500ml (or 1 pint) of clear fluid about an hour before your scan.
- Do not pee before your appointment in order to ensure the best possible ultrasound images.
- Wear a two-piece outfit (such as a top with trousers or a skirt) to allow easy access to your abdomen.
