Kidneys, Bladder and Prostate Scan
At Sonoclinic, we offer Kidneys, Bladder, and Prostate Scans to assess the shape, size, and condition of key components of the male urinary system. This diagnostic tool focuses on:
- The bladder (both when full and after emptying)
- Both kidneys and ureters (the tubes carrying urine from the kidneys towards the bladder)
- The prostate gland, when noticeable.
Purpose of the Scan
The kidneys, bladder, and prostate scan is accessible for individuals above 16 years old who were assigned male at birth. Conducted by experienced sonographers, this scan can assist in:
- Assessing potential impacts of urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Detecting blockages caused by kidney or bladder stones
- Identifying possible reasons for ongoing bladder issues
- Checking for prostate enlargement
If you are already receiving care from your doctor, then it’s advisable not to schedule this scan. Instead, consult your provider to determine if a scan is necessary.
What to Expect
Following your appointment, you will receive a detailed written report outlining your results plus what to do next. Additionally, physical copies of images and a diagnostic report will be provided.
It’s also important to note that we cannot perform a scan for a specific condition if you are already on a treatment plan. Nonetheless, if you have a known condition and are not receiving treatment but are looking to monitor it, feel free to book a scan.
Preparing for Your Scan
- Consume a litre of clear fluid approximately an hour before your appointment.
- Avoid emptying your bladder for better image clarity.
- Since the sonographer will require access to your abdomen, try to put on a two-piece outfit (such as trousers or a skirt and a top).
