Shoulder and Upper Arm Scan
A shoulder and upper arm scan is ideal for individuals aged 16 and above. At Sonoclinic, we use this scan to check one side of the body, which focuses on the following:
- The shoulder joint
- The upper arm
- The rotator cuff for various conditions
- Joints, tendons, and ligaments
- Bursa and any soft tissue swelling
Who Needs This Scan?
The shoulder and upper arm scan is mostly recommended for individuals experiencing:
- Shoulder discomfort
- Suspected rotator cuff injuries or tears
- Subacromial impingement (SAI)
- Calcific tendinosis
- Bursitis
- Degenerative conditions like arthritis
What to Expect
Our qualified sonographer with expertise in diagnostic imaging will conduct your scan, which includes:
- A 20-minute diagnostic session
- A detailed examination of the shoulder and upper arm
- A comprehensive ultrasound report
- A follow-up medical referral, if required
After the scan, you will receive a clear written report detailing your results and our suggested next steps. If a medical follow-up is required, we can send a copy of your report to your GP. Additionally, we will give you physical copies of your scan images plus the diagnostic findings.
Preparing for Your Scan
- Put on appropriate clothing, which may need to be taken off during the examination, as we will require access to your upper arm and shoulder.
- Our sonographer may scan the other side for comparison if considered appropriate.
Important Information
If you are currently receiving treatment for a specific disorder, we cannot perform the scan for that purpose. However, if you have a diagnosed condition and are not undergoing active treatment, you can book a scan for monitoring purposes.
For the best experience, consult your healthcare provider before scheduling a shoulder and upper arm scan, especially if you are under medical care.
