Well Woman Pelvic Scan
A well woman pelvic scan examines the size, structure, and state of the uterus, ovaries, endometrial lining, and pelvic region. It is suitable for individuals aged 16 and above and provides insight into reproductive health by detecting potential abnormalities.
What Can Well Woman Pelvic Scan Detect?
A skilled sonographer with diagnostic expertise conducts the scan, which can assist in identifying or ruling out:
- Fibroids
- Polycystic ovaries
- Ovarian cysts
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
Scan Procedure and What to Expect
Well woman pelvic scan is typically done transvaginally for the clearest results. This entails inserting an ultrasound probe into the vagina with your consent. If you prefer not to proceed with a transvaginal scan, a transabdominal option (using an ultrasound probe on your pelvic skin) may be available. However, it could provide less accurate results.
After your scan, you will receive:
- A detailed written report with recommendations for any necessary next steps
- Printed images and a diagnostic report. If further medical evaluation is required, we can email your report to your GP.
Preparing for Your Scan
- Consume one litre of clear fluid roughly one hour before your appointment.
- Do not pee beforehand.
- Wear a two-piece garment such as trousers or a skirt and a top to enable easy access to the abdomen area.
If you are currently undergoing active medical treatment, speak with your physician before arranging this scan.
