Groin Scan
The groin scan is essential in examining the soft tissues in the groin area with the use of an ultrasound. This scan uses ultrasound waves to view the internal structures of the groin and identify any issues. It is a fast, painless, and completely safe procedure.
The groin is a tender and intricate body part where conditions of all types can occur. At Sonoclinic, we offer groin scan services to help assess the structures in the area, detect groin hernias, and identify fluid build-up or lumps.
What Can a Groin Scan Detect?
The groin scan is done to identify a variety of common conditions affecting the groin, including:
- Groin hernias, such as inguinal or femoral hernias
- Lumps or swelling in the groin area
- Inflammation
- Certain tumours and cancers
- Soft tissue masses, including lipomas and lymph nodes
- Fluid build-up (effusion) within the groin
- Haematomas
- Mass classification (determining whether a mass is solid, cystic, or mixed)
- Post-surgical complications, such as abscess formation or oedema
What to Expect
During the groin scan, you will be required to expose the area to be scanned, so we suggest you wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes.
A small amount of ultrasound gel will be applied to your skin to ensure clear imaging. After that, a probe—a portable ultrasound instrument—will be positioned over the area and moved to take pictures. The ultrasound screen will show the images which will then be interpreted.
The hand scan takes about 10 to 15 minutes and is completely pain-free. Following the scan, your healthcare provider will analyse and go over the results with you. You will also receive a diagnostic ultrasound report and a recommendation on further actions.
