Neck Ultrasound Scan
A neck ultrasound is an imaging technique that captures detailed pictures of internal structures within the neck. This region contains several essential organs, including the thyroid and salivary glands, soft tissue structures, the cervical oesophagus, the jugular arteriovenous system, and deep and muscular lymph nodes.
Sonoclinic offers neck ultrasound services primarily to evaluate the following:
- Lumps in the neck
- Swelling in the neck
- Enlarged lymph nodes
- Thyroid gland, when necessary
How is the Scan Conducted?
A neck ultrasound is done by putting the transducer on the neck. The area is covered with a special gel to enable the device to glide easily over the neck. The transducer emits sound waves that give a good image of the neck structure. This type of imaging is beneficial for detecting lesions or abnormalities in the neck region.
This ultrasound is done in about 10 to 15 minutes and is painless. Following scanning, a detailed report of the findings will be given, along with suggested next steps if necessary.
