Private Kidney Scan
Urinary tract issues are common and can affect both men and women. Because of this, Sonoclinic specialises in providing comprehensive private kidney scans to detect disorders like kidney stones or identify any related signs. Kidney stones often lead to severe pain and may cause blood in the urine.
In some cases, kidney stones can block the ureters, hence preventing proper drainage from the kidneys to the bladder. This condition, known as hydronephrosis, can lead to scarring and serious kidney complications if not treated.
Reasons for a Kidney Ultrasound
In most cases, we use kidney scans to examine the following:
- Kidney pain
- Bladder issues
- Blood in the urine
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Abnormal kidney function
- Cystitis
- Family history of kidney disease
- Irregular blood test results
- Tumours or cancers
- Kidney stones
- Hydronephrosis (fluid retention in the kidneys)
- Urinary incontinence
- Polyps or cysts
- Chronic kidney disease
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
What to Expect
Before the scan, your sonographer will take you through the procedure. You will then lie back on the bed and expose the area of your abdomen being scanned. A small amount of gel will be spread on your skin, and an ultrasound probe will be moved over in order to capture images of the internal structures.
The sonographer will discuss the findings during or after the scan, and you will receive a detailed report to take with you. Also, follow-up recommendations will be given if necessary.
Preparation Requirements
To ensure accurate imaging, you must have a full bladder. So drink 1 litre (2 pints) of water one hour before your appointment.
