Elbow Ultrasound Scan
The elbow is a very sophisticated joint with three interconnected joints enclosed within a shared synovial membrane. At Sonoclinic, we frequently use ultrasound imaging to assess individuals experiencing elbow discomfort, which often stems from repetitive strain, injuries, inflammatory conditions, or nerve-related disorders. Any repeated flexion-extension motion of the elbow may place excessive strain on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments that provide joint stability.
Purpose of the Elbow Ultrasound Scan
An elbow ultrasound scan is performed to assess the elbow for conditions caused by repetitive strain, as well as other potential issues.
Why Get an Elbow Ultrasound Scan?
We may recommend an elbow scan in order to assess problems such as:
- Elbow pain
- Limited mobility
- Tennis elbow
- Tendinopathy
- Student’s elbow
- Tears
- Tumours & cancers
- Bursitis
- Discomfort
- Inflammation
- Nerve entrapment
What to Expect
Before starting the scan, the sonographer will first explain the procedure in detail. He/she will examine the elbow joint while you stay seated with your arm resting on the examination table. The method used will vary depending on the location of the pain and clinical symptoms. Your arm position will change based on the specific area being evaluated. In addition, the joint is assessed when flexed and when also extended.
After the scan, you will receive a detailed ultrasound report of the findings and follow-up recommendations, if necessary.
