Amenorrhea Blood Test

Amenorrhea Blood Test

Amenorrhea refers to the lack of menstrual periods and is categorised as either primary or secondary. Following pregnancy, the first assessment typically involves various blood tests, including an amenorrhea test to measure female hormone levels.

Hormonal markers assessed in the amenorrhea blood test include:

  • Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
  • Luteinising hormone (LH)
  • Prolactin
  • Estradiol

What Does the Amenorrhea Blood Test Involve?

You will need to expose one of your arms to enable the physician to find a vein during the test. A strap will be wrapped and tightened around the upper arm to make the veins more visible, and a needle will be inserted. After that, a small amount of blood is extracted into collection tubes.

A small plaster will then be applied to the location after the blood removal, and it can be taken off in a few hours.

Since this blood test requires access to your arm, wearing loose-fitting clothing is advisable to ensure a smooth process. Moreover, the procedure is mostly performed on days 2 or 3 of your menstrual cycle.
