Endometrial Thickness Ultrasound
An endometrial thickness ultrasound evaluates the appearance and measurement of the womb lining. At Sonoclinic, we use this scan to monitor uterine changes. Understanding endometrial thickness also allows us to tailor treatments and medications for the best possible outcomes.
What Does the Scan Assess?
- Endometrial thickness
- Endometrial appearance
- Support for fertility treatments
Why Do You Need an Endometrial Thickness Scan?
Endometrial thickness changes can sometimes be connected to various conditions, prompting this scan. These conditions may include:
- Cancer & pre-cancerous conditions – Endometrial, ovarian, vaginal or cervical cancer.
- Hormonal imbalances – Hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or changes in birth control or menopause therapy.
- Fertility & reproductive concerns – Pregnancy complications, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or hormonal imbalances.
What to Expect
A small amount of ultrasound gel will be applied to your skin. An ultrasound probe will be gently moved over the area to produce real-time images that will be interpreted on the monitor.
Generally, this scan is quick, pain-free, and lasts approximately 10 to 15 minutes. At the end of the scan, you will receive a detailed report of the results plus recommendations for further action.
Preparation for Your Ultrasound Scan
Internal (transvaginal) scan:
- No need for a full bladder—you may be asked to empty it before the scan.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to the pelvic region.
Abdominal (transabdominal) scan:
- Requires a comfortably full bladder for clearer imaging. So, you should drink 0.5 litres of clear fluid about 30 minutes before your appointment.
- Try to avoid emptying your bladder before the scan.
