Frequently Asked Questions

Although breast implants are durable, complications can occur over time, such as rupture, hardening, or fluid accumulation. Regular implant checks using ultrasound help identify these issues early, before symptoms develop — protecting both your health and cosmetic outcome.

According to international recommendations (including the FDA), you should have your implants checked:

  • Five years after initial surgery, and
  • Every two years thereafter.
This schedule helps detect silent ruptures and monitor implant integrity effectively.

BIA-ALCL is a rare cancer that can develop in the fluid or scar tissue surrounding breast implants.

It’s most often associated with textured implants and typically develops 8–10 years post-surgery.

Common symptoms include:

  • Breast swelling or pain
  • Asymmetry or changes in shape
  • Lumps in the breast or armpit
  • Fluid accumulation or redness

While rare, early detection through regular ultrasound ensures prompt treatment and an excellent prognosis.

Yes. Ultrasound is a highly sensitive test for detecting implant ruptures or leaks, particularly in silicone implants.

A rupture may cause shape changes, swelling, or discomfort — but often, there are no visible symptoms (silent ruptures). Ultrasound identifies these before they become problematic.

Absolutely. Ultrasound is completely safe and does not affect implants.

It’s ideal for examining breast tissue and implant surfaces without compression or radiation exposure.

Yes. Ultrasound can visualise tissue around and in front of implants, helping detect:

  • Solid tumours
  • Fluid-filled cysts
  • Inflammation or infections
Your scan can also complement mammography or MRI for a complete evaluation.

Minimal preparation is required.

  • Wear a two-piece outfit for comfort.
  • Remove jewellery and avoid creams, lotions, or powders on your chest area.
You’ll undress from the waist up in a private, comfortable room.

You’ll lie comfortably while a clear ultrasound gel is applied to your chest.

The specialist glides a small handheld probe over your breasts to capture images of both implants and surrounding tissue.

The scan takes 20–30 minutes and is completely painless. You may only feel light pressure during the procedure.

Your specialist will review and discuss your results immediately after the scan.

A full digital report and images will be securely emailed to you later that day.
