Kidneys, Ureters and Bladder Scan
Sonoclinic offers kidneys, ureters, and bladder scans to examine the urinary system. This includes:
- The size and shape of both kidneys
- The structure and outline of your full bladder
- Whether your bladder empties completely
Who Requires Kidneys, Ureters and Bladder Scan?
Kidneys, ureters and bladder scans are available for individuals over 16 years old whose biological sex at birth is female. You may consider undergoing this scan if you have:
- Frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- A history of kidney stones or bladder stones
- Ongoing bladder issues
Scan Details
An experienced sonographer specialising in diagnostic imaging conducts the kidneys, ureters and bladder scan. It involves a 20-minute diagnostic session, a detailed ultrasound report, and medical follow-up recommendations (if needed).
If the sonographer believes that a different scan would be more suitable, they may recommend an upper abdominal scan. You may need to book a separate appointment, but our team will assist in scheduling a convenient time.
If you are currently receiving care from your healthcare provider, we recommend consulting them before undergoing this scan.
After the scan, you will receive a written report of your results, along with our guidance on any next steps. Printed images and a diagnostic report will also be provided at your appointment.
Preparing for Your Scan
Do the following to ensure accurate results and smooth procedure:
- Drink a litre of clear fluid at least an hour before your appointment since a full bladder provides a better view of the organs.
- Wear a two-piece outfit like a top with trousers or a skirt for easy access to your abdomen.
It’s important to note that we cannot perform this scan for a particular condition if you are already on a treatment plan. But you can book a scan if you have a known condition and are not currently receiving treatment.
