The knee scan at Sonoclinic aims to evaluate one knee for various conditions. We primarily use this ultrasound scan to analyse the joint, bursae, tendons, medial and lateral collateral ligaments, surrounding muscles, menisci, and the back of the knee.
Purpose of Knee Scan
This knee scan is available for individuals aged 16 and over and is conducted by experienced local sonographers. It helps determine the possible cause of problems such as:
- Knee discomfort
- Possible injuries
- Tendon or ligament inflammation
It can also assist in diagnosing conditions like:
- Tendinosis
- Bursitis
- Knee effusions and meniscal cysts/degeneration
- Ligament tears
- Posterior knee cysts
- Degenerative changes, including arthritis
What to Expect
In some cases, the sonographer may choose to examine both knees to compare them, though this is not always required. You will receive a detailed written report outlining the findings as well as our recommended next steps.
Should a medical follow-up be required, we can send a copy of your report to your GP via email. You will also receive printed images along with a diagnostic report after the scan.
Preparing for Your Scan
While there are no special requirements, it’s advisable to wear loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to your knees. Do not schedule this scan if you are already under medical supervision. You might want to check with your doctor first to determine if the scan is necessary.
