Private Abdominal Scan
An abdominal scan is a non-invasive approach used to diagnose and assess various issues within the abdomen. The scan relies on sound waves to generate digital images of abdominal organs. This makes it possible for experts to evaluate their size, shape, and structure while spotting any abnormalities or disease symptoms.
Purpose of Abdominal Scan
The private abdominal scan is suitable for assessing organs such as:
- Liver
- Kidneys
- Gallbladder
- Pancreas
- Bile ducts
- Spleen
Condition Detected with Abdominal Scan
An abdominal ultrasound examines various aspects of the abdomen using high-frequency sound waves to create images of structures and tissues. At Sonoclinic, we use this scan to detect:
- Organ size, shape, and structure
- Signs of liver disease including fatty liver or cirrhosis
- Gallstones or gallbladder disease
- Kidney stones
- Cysts, tumours, or other unusual growths
- Accumulation of abdominal fluid (ascites)
Why Might You Require An Abdominal Scan?
We may recommend an abdominal ultrasound for several reasons, primarily to investigate symptoms or concerns linked to abdominal organs. The prevalent symptoms or conditions that may necessitate an abdominal ultrasound include:
- Abdominal pain
- Bloating or distension
- Fatty liver disease
- Gallbladder disease
- Enlarged organs (e.g., liver or spleen)
- Liver lesions
- Altered liver function
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Pancreatic disorders
- Kidney stones
What to Expect
During the scan, a small amount of ultrasound gel will be applied to your skin, and a handheld ultrasound probe will be moved over the area. The probe generates images on both the ultrasound screen and the patient’s TV. The clinical specialist will then interpret these images.
The scan normally takes about 10 to 15 minutes and is completely painless. Afterward, you will receive a written summary of the results. You can also ask your provider any questions you may have.
How to Prepare For the Scan
- You must not consume food at least six hours before the scan, but you can take clear fluid like water.
- If you have diabetes, continue your usual food consumption, but steer clear of fatty or dairy products for about six hours before the scan.
- Since you will need to uncover the area being examined, it’s advisable to wear loose-fitting and comfortable clothing.
You can continue taking your medications as usual.
